The reason most homeowners choose siding is for its maintenance-free durability, many products offering limited lifetime warrantees. There is also the peace of mind in knowing they don’t have to spend thousands repainting the home’s exterior every few years. But with all the high marks siding has and the vast product improvements with each generation, there are problems that can develop.
Among these are warping and buckling, mostly due to improper installation.
Moisture that occasionally penetrates the waterproof barrier that should be installed with siding can lead to mold, mildew, rot or leaks.
While many consider siding invincible, excessive sunlight in one area can cause fading, which is largely a cosmetic issue but if left unchecked can result in cracking.
Other forms of cracking, also dents and chips, can occur if siding is hit by a heavy object such as hail, sports balls or rocks.
