No one is perfect but there’s a reason NH Exteriors has over 5,000 repeat customers. Here are a few of their stories.
We’ve moved in the last few years, but before that owned a 1970s split-level house we purchased in 2000. At one point we had to put a new roof on. The contractor we first used was referred by a family friend. Immediately after the roof was put on, it started to fail. We learned the company had gone bankrupt and was not standing by the shingles, which were basically melting. Turns out it wasn’t the quality of the materials, but that they had never cut a roof ridge—a vent. They just shingled and sealed it. So the heat was building up in the house and rising to the attic with no place to go. The shingles were curling, we were getting water damage, and many were just destroyed as they were never engineered to get that hot.
I decided to put a (standing seam) metal roof on, because it was the last time I wanted to deal with it in my lifetime. We contacted about five different roofing providers. NH Exteriors was not the cheapest, but we liked the fact that they were down the street so wouldn’t be far if we needed them to come back. But what we got was so much more than geography! When they put the metal roof on, they addressed the ventilation issue and decided to install it over the shingles, so the weight of the metal would prevent the rest of the shingles from curling and we had two layers of protection!
We liked the work that they did with the roof so well, that when the vinyl siding was cracking, we knew we wanted NH Exteriors back. In the ‘70s, the house had apparently been manufactured offsite and brought to the property. When investigating the vinyl siding situation we discovered there was no insulation in the walls—or perhaps it had been used and old when installed and it disintegrated. It just wasn’t there. The house had also not been wrapped: there was no vapor barrier around it. This explains why for warmth, for years we literally had to hang quilts on the walls in my daughter’s room. Also you could sit in the living room on a windy winter day and feel the wind. The outdoors was indoors.
We could have had insulation sprayed into dozens of holes we’d need to have drilled in the drywall, but that sounded like a lot of destruction. We opted for insulated siding and wrapping the house. The final result lowered our heat bill by probably 30 percent.
There were a couple of calls we had to make to ask the company to come back and they came instantly. Also, where the siding was concerned, they decided the first workman they sent, though meticulous, might be taking a little too long. Without our saying anything (we were incredibly happy from the beginning), they replaced him. It was clear they closely monitor every aspect of the job. For both roof and siding, we could not be happier with the end product.

Five years ago, NH Exteriors came out to put on a new asphalt shingle roof. My farm house is 3,000 years old (wink)—okay, maybe just over 200—but it’s old! I purchased it 18 years ago and wasn’t sure of the age of the roof, but it had begun to leak so it was time.
Interestingly, my circumstances were complicated at the time so only half of the roof was done by NH Exteriors. My brother and I later finished with another company, which was a huge mistake. The second company was everything you don’t want: messy; disrespectful; poor quality materials. This was the opposite of NH Exteriors, where from the beginning they were professional, respectful, clean, knowledgeable, giving us real quality work.
It only took a couple of days and while the job was going on they did an amazing job of cleaning the space before they left each night. I have dogs and was concerned about nails, but they used a drop cloth that hung down from the roof and always raked up and used a magnet. When the job was all done, they left the property cleaner and neater than it was when they got there.
Last year, I noticed a couple of shingles looked like they were right near the edge. I called NH Exteriors and they were right there the next day. I thought they were just coming out to look at it but they fixed it on the spot. The follow-up and what they promise about standing by the work are excellent.
The house is so old I like to say the roof is about the only thing left standing! It’s getting ready to fall down but the roof will still be there—I’m sure of it. I would recommend NH Exteriors to everyone and will hire them again for more work.

“We moved to Mass. in 2009, purchasing our home in 2014. The home had three skylights and one was a problem which we didn’t notice at first, but as the years went by, we noticed more and more moss accumulating on the roof around it. We thought it might be falling from the trees but the problem became clear when we realized the seal just wasn’t good. It was definitely the flashing, and we knew if water really was soaking into the roof around it we’d be facing roof damage which no one wants.
“It really wasn’t worth it just to fix the seal. We needed a new skylight with the flashing redone, some new roof tiles and the roof repaired around it. The representative on the phone set the expectation that we both needed to be home for the appointment, which is a good practice. When the salesperson came out, we wanted to think about it and he gave us the space to decide. No pressure that way.
“When we committed, we knew what to expect at every stage. We were told someone would be coming a couple of days before to bring materials, look at the area again, etc. They were very prepared and there were no surprises for us.
“What may be most remarkable and speaks to the company’s integrity is that on the first morning, the foreman must have noticed the shingle color wasn’t exactly right. He drove all the way back to NH and exchanged them, even bringing along some extras. The thing is we never knew any of this went on until the middle of the day when we got an update. They could have gotten away with not mentioning it as it wasn’t something we’d necessarily have noticed—or maybe wouldn’t have complained about if and when we did as it was on the back of the house. We appreciated how thoughtful they were in taking it upon themselves to do a quality job. It gave us a lot of confidence in the company.
We also thought the job might be derailed by COVID-19 and NH Exteriors was very communicative about that, making us feel very comfortable. They assured us they would take all precautions with their crew. They cleaned up so well afterwards, leaving no debris, which we really appreciated as we have two little kids. We have a lot of faith in this company and will use them again.”

“I almost don’t know where to begin. Our relationship with NH Exteriors goes back to 2015, the year after we bought our house, and has continued every year since. We started out doing a metal roof on one part of the back, realizing the next year we had issues with the roof in the front following a particularly bad winter so we had them back for more work. This was followed by siding for a section of the back, then replacing a window in the bathroom where the work was so good it inspired us to put in a whole new window in the front. What a difference! Before, it was a dark little hole and then the new window just opened up the space with light. Windows on the first floor were replaced after that, followed by siding for the whole house. We also had an asphalt roof replaced over the garage. We’ve kept the company busy, including for some new doors which are gorgeous. And while there may have been some savings for us in doing everything at once, we were never pressured to do anything more than we could afford.
“There are a lot of outstanding things about this company, but maybe what stands out the most is the time they came back without hesitation to fix a door they’d installed that—through no fault of the their own—was put out of alignment by heavy snow and ice. Unlike many companies where they’d have said it was not their responsibility, NH Exteriors came out immediately and adjusted it.
“There is also never any question about the schedule. When they said something was happening that day, it really was happening that day. If they said a dumpster would be delivered at this time, and supplies will be dropped off at that time, in more than five years they’ve always kept their word and we’ve never been held up.
“Some companies will start on your project, work a little so you can’t say they didn’t start when they said they would, and then go off and work on other projects leaving the work unfinished for weeks. But NH Exteriors has never done that. They tell you when they’re going to begin and when they will be finished, and they’ve never wavered from that. As for the jobsite, we’ve noticed it is cleaned up every day. They don’t wait until the job is over. No nails or sandwich wrappers left around when they go home at night. When you work with this company, it’s a real partnership. We can’t wait to have them back.”

“Replacing a roof and siding is a huge investment. But beyond the quality of the product, which I had no question about, there are concerns about the care that will be taken while the work is being done. My concern was my garden in the front of the house and how well that would be protected, because it’s taken a long time to get it to the state it’s in now. How careful will the people who are doing the work really be? There’s that issue, plus nails in the driveway that your car will drive over. But it all turned out very satisfactorily. The (asphalt) roof was amazing: they did the work in one day and it included the house and a single car garage.
“I also had 4- or 5-year-old siding replaced on two sides of the house that had been improperly installed by another company. The work, materials and color matching to the existing color the company did was excellent. Several people have asked me who did the work and I have been very happy to recommend NH Exteriors.”

I built my house 32 years ago using wooden clapboard. Six years ago I had a woodpecker problem on one side and a local carpenter tried to fix it, pulling the clapboard down, discovering some of the wood had become soft—and the woodpecker was going after the soft wood.
When he removed the clapboard, there was quite a bit of mold and other problems. It turned out he was going to have to replace the whole side of the house. So instead of using more wood, I decided to go with vinyl siding—just doing that one side of the house with white siding because I didn’t want any fading to be that noticeable, though the rest of the house was blue. Each year I thought I would do another side of the house so within four years I’d have completed the job with white vinyl siding. (The best laid plans.) Six years later I’d not done anything besides that first side, and in fact the house was something like six different colors because at one point prior to the woodpecker problem I’d re-stained the house myself—doing an awful job. Another time in the past I’d decided to paint it, and started to prime it, and that was really hard doing all by myself. I had blue paint, on top of the white primer, and it was all just awful. Now I also had the one side with white vinyl siding. Thank goodness my house is set back from the street because it was pretty embarrassing!
When NH Exteriors came out, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the work could begin—it was within three weeks. They called to tell me they were going to bring the supplies which they did on schedule. The contractor came the next day and started working right away. He told me exactly what he was going to do, but not without asking me questions about what I wanted. He talked about the windows, doors and corners—all the details. He had to blend what was there on the first side with the new siding on the other three sides. It’s all done very, very well. He asked me more questions than I asked him and the entire job was done within one week. It was all really, really professional. I walk my dog a lot through the woods and coming up on my house now is a whole new experience.

Our house is 40 years old and we’d had it built using clapboard. We had to repaint about every 10 years and this time the people who came out to give us an estimate found mildew and a lot of deterioration. The cost to replace a lot of the wood and then paint, yet again, was going to be at least $10,000 or more. My husband and I decided enough was enough at that point and that vinyl siding was the way to go.
We got a phone call around that time from Brian at NH Exteriors and scheduled a visit with James Taylor (JT)—the product specialist. He was very knowledgeable, as was Kenneth, the foreman who later came out.
Communication was very easy and they started July 1. They were here when they said they were going to be here—showed up exactly when they were supposed to and right on time—and finished everything within 2.5 or 3 days. They were very tidy each day, putting any debris in garbage bags and off to the side of the yard. Everybody has commented on how great it looks, and in fact JT is coming out again about a roofing estimate. Now that we have the nice siding we’ve noticed the roof is not up to par, so we’re going to get an estimate and we can’t wait!

“I had a bright black metal roof and later gutters put on. The roofing work was done in the middle of winter—maybe the coldest week of the year. The workers worked like crazy, like ants on an ant hill, staying up there in the freezing cold all day. I don’t know they could work like that but they did and it was a big job. We had a 5-day deadline and then there was some bad weather but it was all done fast and well.
To begin with, they had to clear all the snow off my old shingled roof. Kenneth Drews and Brian Kehoe were overseeing everything and there was great communication. If there were any issues that came up in the process, they were fixed immediately. I’m a military veteran and also experienced in roofing and gutters myself, so I do have some high standards. It was quality work for the quality price I was paying. I even suggested they put up advertising signs in front of my house when it was done. I’m 100 percent satisfied.”

“From the time the salesman, Mike, came out to talk about siding, this was a very good experience. He made everything perfectly clear and tried to help me with pricing, telling me about discounts that might apply which made a difference.
“The work was scheduled to start and then the virus happened immediately. The materials had been delivered but they had to wait a week or so to start. We all had to understand the personal precautions necessary in order to make sure they and I would be safe. I appreciated that. They got here to begin the job as fast as they could. Probably because of the virus, the dumpster company didn’t drop off the dumpster the first day, but NH Exteriors didn’t want to delay the work any longer and filled their own trucks with the old aluminum siding, taking it all with them. I also work overnight until 5 a.m., coming home to sleep during the day. They were so quiet I never knew they were there. I had rot around my windows and they took care of it—everything—including cleaning up all the metal and nails from the job.
Also important was that I told them I didn’t want to change the style and character of my vintage 1925 home. They respected that, keeping the black window trim, white siding, etc. The house looks the same but so much nicer now. I have been recommending this company.”

“Forthright, honest, pleasant and respectful is the way I’d describe everyone from NH Exteriors. From the first few phone calls to the first visit to the installers who came out to give us a new roof, people went above and beyond and the job was done quickly. I was teaching a lot and not often there to monitor the work, but every time I called Chris, who was onsite, he was totally accessible. In fact two years later a huge gust of wind came by and while the roof was perfect, it stripped some very old siding (from another company) off the side of our house. NH Exteriors came out immediately to fix it and we are going to have them replace all of our siding.”

“Ours was no easy project. We’ve been in our house for about 40 years, living in an area with a lot of snow accumulation. The house itself, at 4,100 s.f., is about 120 years old, comprised of two barns assembled together into a home in the early 1930s. From 1996-98, we added on a wing and 3-story tower. At that time we put on an asphalt roof which lasted a while but by 2017, we started to have leaks.
“Because of the difficulty of the project, we interviewed a few roofing companies. We wanted a standing seam metal roof, and a specialist in metal roofs, not just someone who did this occasionally. One company said they couldn’t undertake it. Most roofs have just two faces: ours has 29, plus lots of valleys, ridge caps, etc. The second company was reluctant as well, given the complexity, though did give us an estimate—higher than the one from NH Exteriors.
“A very experienced crew headed by John Nazarian and his son came out from NH Exteriors—in fact I’d describe them as ‘gung-ho.’ Understandably it took a while to do it all and given our location, it started to snow early—they even had to shovel the roof as they went along—and they did a great job. The 3-story tower was higher than typical ladders could reach so they had to get a lift to do the whole job. The heft of the lift made some divots in the lawn, for which they immediately ordered and filled with loam. They did everything.
“The next year, while a wonderful winter for skiers like us, we decided we needed a snow retention system for the roof so snow wouldn’t come sliding off onto the walkways. Kenneth Drews came out and we designed it. Since then, we’ve had painters and carpenters around our house who have commented on the job NH Exteriors did. It’s an epic roof!”

“Our last roof—architectural shingles—was installed in 2005. Our 30-year shingles didn’t even make it 15 years. There had been shoddy workmanship by someone and it wasn’t holding up. We called NH Exteriors about a metal roof. The old one wasn’t leaking a lot yet—just one small leak so far, but we could see the signs that it was ‘going to be going.’ So largely as a preemptive measure we took the step toward a new roof, and we wanted metal so we wouldn’t have to keep shoveling snow off of it.
The job took just a few days and workmen set up a huge tarp in one corner of the yard. Everything was pushed out of the way each night before they left—no trash or piles left anywhere during construction or after. We got our brand new agricultural panel metal roof, and the exciting part is now we can look forward this winter to not shoveling the snow off!”

“In the summer of 2010 it was time to replace some rotted soffits and our asphalt roof, which was at about the 26- or 27-year-point of a 30-year warranty. The roof had been hit by lightning so there were singed spots, and also some worn spots. It had the regular ¾” plywood, then tar paper, followed by the asphalt shingles.
Having done our research, we agreed with NH Exteriors that we should leave all that on, put another sheet of tar paper on top, and then the standing seam metal roof—which was a very nice combination. There was no need to take anything off. It would have cost more to do that and while some companies may have tried to steer us in that direction for the added price, NH Exteriors did not. Doing that would have also left us with less insulation and resulted in more noise. The fact is it is much quieter now in the house with the addition of the metal roof—quieter than it was before. This is the Cadillac of metal roofs.
Though it was the hottest time of the summer, the job was done in 3 to 4 days. We made sure we hydrated them with iced tea and lemonade (and offered them baked goods!) and they just pushed through. We live on a hill with a 400-ft. driveway on two levels—a long way out to the road. The workmen were very respectful and went all the way down there if they wanted to smoke. They used cans and collected the cigarette butts leaving nothing around, not even on the street. We were really happy and have recommended the company to other people.”

“Because we love Bernie Sanders, we Googled Vermont to learn about the state that had produced such a man. We moved from Los Angeles to Windsor in August, 2017, into a farmhouse built in 1900. We had a big list for this house, a 10-year-list with a metal roof. Friends actually saw wood through the old asphalt shingles so in 2018 we had to put it at the top of the list.
We called other companies and they all said it could be up to a year before they got to us, but we were nervous about how it would weather. Dan from NH Exteriors came out in two days. He was super helpful and the job was done within a month. In L.A., metal roofs are not at all common. Dan helped educate us and instantly became our friend. He helped us find financing which was a big thing; in fact he made it easy.
We also loved John, the roofer. He was such a hard worker—so serious about the job—all about safety. It was snowing and icy and he just kept going. He cleaned up all the time. The roof was done in five days.
After the roof was complete, there was a storm and a leak upstairs and we called Dan again. He sent someone from the company the next day. John had warned us there was a calking issue with our chimney, which needed flashing. In fact John cared so much and came back too. It definitely was not his roof! We ultimately had the chimney rebuilt.
Also on our list was window replacement, but a very small window. It involved opening up the wall but then again it was just one small window. We thought it was much too small a job for NH Exteriors to come all the way to Vermont for this. But they were great about doing it for us anyway, finishing the installation very fast. This is a great company to do business with.”

“I inherited a small cottage from my father who passed away in 2018. It’s my first house, only 662 s.f., on 4-acres of farmland. Built in the 1940s, it has a steep, uneven roof slope, so it was interesting to watch the way NH Exteriors bent the metal to make it fit the pitch. I now have a burgundy color metal roof which really makes it pop.
“Originally I had three or four different quotes from different companies. NH Exteriors was in the middle, and what I really liked most was the how the salesman explained the triple crimped roof—where each panel interlocks for the best durability. He laid it all out, showing me exactly what it was going to look like. At first I was looking to do siding, but they took the time to explain to me why you get the roof done first. None of the other companies did that.
“I had other contractors do the garage roof before I found NH Exteriors. I learned a lot from that experience about what not to do—for example they attached a new roof to rotting wood. For the house, I decided I needed to find a company well-known throughout New England that offered an outstanding warranty. That’s definitely NH Exteriors, and, they were sure to remove any rotting wood when they started the job.
“During the installation I wasn’t working, so I was out there with the crew every day for four weeks from end of October to the week before Thanksgiving. The foreman arrived every single morning at exactly 7:30—always on time—and they all started like clockwork at 8 a.m. They cleaned up the area at the end of every day, leaving nothing behind. If I had a question or issue, it was taken care of immediately. I took progression shots for Facebook and have already recommended the company to a friend with a log cabin who’s in need of a metal roof.”

In October 2020, the asphalt roof on our 1989 doublewide showed signs of leaks. It was failing. We live in a very shaded area with lots of moss. These are never good conditions and we were done with the world of asphalt. We’d replaced it three times and wanted a metal roof this time, but several companies told us our roof didn’t have enough of a pitch to accommodate one. NH Exteriors disagreed, having successfully completed other metal roofs in our park. We felt reassured by that.
The company came out with machines that measure so the roof can be cut precisely, not done piecemeal. It was quite a sight! We had recently retired and were going to be away the first part of December, returning, and then leaving again for a couple of weeks in January. We were concerned about any work being done while we were away yet wanted it to get done. True to their word, they texted us frequent updates with detailed progress pictures. We never felt like we didn’t know what was going on. There was also a concern expressed before we left as we have two older skylights, and the company was worried about cracking when they were removed. A plan for this was put in place which also made us feel very secure, but they were able to be cleaned and saved.
The work was finished on a Monday with predictions for a blizzard coming in the following day. They explained that normally everything is removed from the property immediately, with dumpster pick-up the next day. In light of the storm, though, pick-up was scheduled for Wednesday and NH Exteriors kept us informed every step of the way. There was a plan for everything—nothing was ever left to chance.
